For the money?

Kind of. But not really.

If you’re getting into art for the money or “fame” (😂), let me save you some time. Quit now.

Doing art for the money would be like cleaning sewers for the pleasant aromas. They don’t typically go hand in hand.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, you might make it into the middle class. But the majority of your career you’ll make little to nothing as a traditional artist. Graphic designers, technical artists, and the like have a better chance of having a “career”. But you’ll also likely be an employee, have demanding clients, and crazy hours.

This is a pursuit of love and expression, that requires a level of discipline that had I understood initially, I would have probably never started.

I’ve been doing this my whole life. My earliest memories are of me drawing. I’ve been pursuing it as a freelance artist since 2004, and I’m just starting to have a legitimate steady earning that provides what I would consider a basic adult income.

But, all of that struggle, all of that failure, all of that heartache and lack of money is worth it when you are able to produce something that even impresses yourself.
