Take time to work the problem

This cover had me cross-eyed. I was super stoked on the concept but when I got to the final drawing, I simply COULDN’T see the proportions correctly. The skull was a struggle. The size of Electro’s hand on Spidey’s throat. The placement of the remaining fingers of Electro’s hand above Spidey’s head.
ALL OF IT.
They seemed correctly drawn but they just felt off. Or maybe, more accurately, I felt off.
So I took some time to sit on it. Dropped a photo of it in CSP and extended the edges so that I could draw the rest of these parts and be sure that they’re proportionally accurate.
And guess what? They were. Everything was fine. I was just mentally off that day for whatever reason.
The important thing here is that I didn’t take it out on the art or myself. I didn’t scream in frustration and tear it to shreds. I didn’t think I was dumb or incapable. I didn’t freak out.
I took some time to work the problem. Sometimes that means taking a step back to come back later with fresh eyes. Sometimes that means testing your work. Sometimes that means barreling forward.
Sometimes it means all three.
