You think success is dependent on skill? HA!
Let me be clear on this: There are TONS of successful people in positions of power and influence that are terrible at their actual job.
Hell, you probably work for one of these knuckleheads.
Success is about marketing. It’s about packaging. It’s about presentation. It’s about connection.
Skill, unfortunately, seems to be way down the list.
Is this fair? Not in the slightest.
Or maybe?
Or absolutely?
🤷
I just know that’s how it is.
You can’t win a game if you don’t play by the rules
And I’m not the one that made humans prone to effective marketing.
When I preach about working and posting your work, I’m doing that because that’s BOTH skill development AND marketing.
Figure out why you like to do what you do. Learn how to speak on it. Spread the word on your purpose, your drive, your motivation, your way of seeing the world.
People are far more likely to buy from you because they LIKE YOU, then they are because they see a cool piece of art you did.
Building a deep client list of rabid supporters takes time and you never know which like or comment from a person is going to become one of them.
You got 86 views and 7 likes? HELL YEAH! That’s 7 people in the room with you patting you on the back and saying “good job”! And there’s probably another 15-20 who liked your work but just didn’t bother hitting the button.
Don’t let your own insecurities stop you from finding your fans. Let them exist. Appreciate them. Nurture them by continuing to be YOU and learn to trust THEIR opinion.
If someone says they like your work, believe them. It’s ok for them to like your work even if you don’t.
This is my latest cover for the upcoming RAWT and GORE! Another book by @smunchyart
