Fire can be easy… The hard part, like all of art, is learning the underlying fundamentals, forms, and principles that create the illusion of well known 3 dimensional objects using absurd tools like paper, ink, and paint.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you likely know all about my love in rendering fire. It’s easily one of the most fun and rewarding elements to bring to life.

It’s both real and abstract, formed and formless. We know it when it’s in front of us, but it is undeniably hypnotic in its refusal to stay still long enough for us to really see it.

I’ve learned many ways to manifest the glowing beast, but painting it in this freeform manner may be my favorite.

Cad Yellow, Diarylide Yellow, Flourescent Orange, Cad Orange, Pyrole Red, Burnt Sienna and a filbert brush. 😮‍💨🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

If you really want to know how I do it, I go into full process detail on my YoobToob channel which you can find on my profile.

But in the meantime let me reiterate the importance of learning to play and experiment. Try new things. Let your curiosity plummet you into an obsession of mastery.

And never, NEVER fear failure.

There’s always more paper.
