Restrictions

Restrictions are a good thing when it comes to art.

Deadlines require commitments to your decisions. They allow you to move on to the next work. If you allow them they will help your productivity.

Desires from your clients help with a starting point and guide rails. Pushing the limits of those guide rails foster opportunities for new creativity.

Page size, color palettes, physical and mental limitations can ALL benefit you.

There are things I can’t do. Skills I don’t yet have. Understandings I still need to learn.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t make something awesome. I’m capable to creation within my lack of skill and experience.

Trusting my instincts, my ability, my vision, all empower me to make something that is uniquely my own. Embracing that, while still seeking out growth will dictate the rest of my career.

Use what you know. Seek out what you don’t.
