Over confidence

Do you suffer from over confidence?
I used to.
It’s funny because people usually associate confidence as a good thing. But in my case, and maybe yours, it was the opposite.
I was so confident I believed I didn’t have to do what others did. I thought my skills deserved recognition of a higher level than I had yet earned. And it hindered my growth… A LOT!
It took me 40 years before I truly understood the value of humility. I thought my talent meant I wouldn’t have to work as hard. I thought because I was better than the average Joe that I could skip the line.
What I didn’t know is the world can TELL when you haven’t put in the work. It can literally sense arrogance.
Sure, on occasion we’ll see someone with immense talent break through and have brief moments of massive success. But if you avoid humility and consistency, you will be violently slammed back into place.
I’m so grateful to have learned that lesson. To now understand that the process is the goal. Whatever end results occur are irrelevant. Did I work? Did I put in the work? Did I put in my reps? Did I put in my time yesterday? Did I do it today? Will I do it tomorrow?
Finding satisfaction in the boredom of process has become the most fulfilling part of my life. I now understand, through experience, that whatever results I’m seeking are inevitable, but only if I’m willing to get behind the desk and work.
It’s like the universe gives us every opportunity to EARN the life we want. But you must follow the recipe, and the recipe calls for patience, perseverance, trust, and gratitude.
On to the next one. 💪🏻
