So I got commissioned to do a giveaway piece for @helldestroyercomics
It’s for Big Rig which I guess is @postmalone new comic. All cool stuff, right?
“Something simple, kinda like a card with guy in the middle and demon devils in the corners.” That was the request.
Settled on price, started drawing on a comic backer (this comes into play later) and all is well. I’ve penciled them, I’ve inked them, and I’ve decided it will be a cool effect to splatter some red ink in each corner.
What I didn’t anticipate was that the red ink was going to smudge off the original inks, because it’s on a paper I haven’t tested before. 😡
Dumb.
I was pissed. I haven’t ruined something to the point of no return in a long time. I started to get a new sheet out to begin again, and instead I said, “you know what? Fu€k it. Let’s see what we can do if we work WITH this supposed mistake.”
Now, I only have that kind of determination because of my years as an abstract artist and learning how to appreciate spontaneity and “messes”.
So we ended up with a pretty cool piece, far more valuable than the original price, a victory pulled from the jaws of defeat, and a happy customer.
Way better result than throwing in the towel.
