Mimicking a legend

I tend to stay away from homage requests as much as possible because my personal desire is to be creating the work that OTHER people want to homage.

That being said, every request is a learning experience, and doing @jimlee and switching it up to Thragg and Invincible was a perfect match.

I have a weak spot for heavy black use, so I figured using Jim’s reference would be a nice place to practice.

Tbf, Jim likely did this on an 11” x 17” and I’m cramming mine onto a 7” x 10”. So he got to do details I didn’t. And man, I really needed more markers to get the colors of this brighter.

Other than a couple adjustments, all in all I am a very happy camper. And my client is thrilled.

Hopefully, one of these days I’ll be scrolling through IG or whatever social media we have at that point, and I’ll see some up and comer recreating one of my covers. And I’ll know I’ve solidified my place in the lexicon.

Until then, even attempting to mimic a legend like Jim Lee is an honor.
