Master the mundane

The rules matter so you can learn how to break them.
His arm might be proportionally wrong, his fingers might be off a bit, the perspective might not be technically perfect, the viewing angle may not be correct…
But does it look awesome? Hell yeah.
I drew tens of thousands of “correct” anatomy arms, legs, torsos, etc before I was ever able to bend them to my will.
I’m still figuring out my ultimate style. I’m still seeking evolution and learning new technique and skills.
But all of that only comes after mastering the mundane.
My Dad played professional baseball before I was born. Of course, as I grew up, he got me involved in the sport. It was probably 4th or 5th grade when I was frustrated because I couldn’t hit the ball. He was encouraging my practice when he revealed that he probably swung the bat more times in his daily practice than I had in my entire life at that point. 🫨🤯
To be a pro at something, you have to do it more than just occasionally. It has to become a dedication. An obsession. A consistent commitment of doing it even when you don’t necessarily feel like it.
And then, when you’ve done it so many times you lost count of losing count, you’ll begin to unlock something special inside of you.
YOUR voice. YOUR vision. YOUR gift.
