Is your dream getting in the way of your ability to achieve that dream?

Having grandiose ideas about what we are capable of can often be detrimental to our willingness to endure the process necessary to acquire said ideas.

If I have a big vision, the last thing I want to do is go through all of the mundane, irritating, annoying steps REQUIRED to see that vision come to fulfillment.

It’s easy to be too caught up in the end goal to believe it’s even necessary to grind out the worst parts of the process.

Let’s say I want to draw something cool like Cobra Commander standing defiantly as he directs his soldiers to fight through the fire of battle and defeat his sworn enemy, GI Joe.

But this means I MUST take some arduous, tedious, NO-FUN steps to get there. I have to have an immense number of skills to achieve this. I have to have an understanding AND an ability to execute anatomy, composition, form, light, shadow, expression, foreshortening, perspective. I need to know how to render fire, smoke, fabric, armor, leather, buttons, and pouches.

If I can’t go through the process of learning all of those things, and then the willingness to execute what I’ve learned with patience and perseverance, then all I’m left with is a dream and the delusional spewing of weightless words upon which deaf ears and rolling eyes respond in abundance.

No one owes you your dream.

Mastery is EARNED. You must PROVE you can conquer the little steps. You must become UNDENIABLE in your skill set. You must move from capability to ABILITY.

Do all of that and watch those deaf ears and rolling eyes transform into the bated breath of an entire crowd of attentive eye balls.

So go get dirty, be patient, and make that shit happen.
