Have you heard of ikigai?

It’s the Japanese concept of “a reason for being”. The question is, what do you love, what are you good at, what does the world need, and what can you get paid for?

In the venom diagram intersection to the answers of these questions lie your purpose. The thing you can put all of your time and energy into and be truly fulfilled.

The challenge is staying in balance. Once you start making money, it is easy to chase that money at the expense of love. Conversely, if you only focus on what the world needs, you may end up ignoring what you are actually good at.

I love doing commissions for customers, but I’m also learning to turn down work that may not satisfy me from an experience standpoint. I want to continue loving what I do. So it’s important to minimize doing the stuff that isn’t fulfilling.
