Sometimes it’s what you leave out that matters.

Empty backgrounds, a lack of response, the pause before the drop…

As an artist one of the hardest things to learn is editing. Not what you put in… but what you DON’T put in.

I did a fair bit of video editing for a living for years. Music videos, short films, commercials, etc. And the best thing it taught me was the importance of eliminating ANYTHING that takes away from the story you’re telling.

We can throw in the cool shot, the funny line, the complex background. But if it burdens the observer with unnecessary information, then you’re doing the work a disservice.

This series is about telling the stories of these characters with JUST their hands. So how do you capture a person, their essence, their attitude, with such a limited amount of information?

Within that challenge I will continue my growth as an artist.

Not by adding in, but by stripping away.
