Chase your passion

People seem to think my passion is art, and they couldn’t be more wrong.

My passion is getting other people to chase THEIR passion.

You don’t need to be Brad Pitt to be a successful actor. You can absolutely be an actor by doing extra work, small gigs, self productions, theater shows, or even social media.

You don’t need to be George RR Martin to be a successful writer. You can absolutely write and self publish any kind of book that you feel compelled to produce.

You don’t need to be Prince to be a successful musician. It’s easier than ever to learn how to record and produce your own music. (I should know, I’ve produced 12 albums)

The question isn’t whether you are capable, it’s whether you are willing to invest as much time and energy into that thing you want to do as you seem to be willing to waste it doing things that will likely give you nothing back in return.

If you spend 6-13 hours a week learning piano, you’ll ALWAYS get better at piano and you’ll have a skill that could possibly, MAYBE, make you a few bucks.

If you spend 4-9 hours a week learning how to sew clothing, you’ll eventually get to a place where you can ALWAYS make clothes, and MAYBE have a style that you’ve always wanted but could never find.

If you spend 7-16 hours a week watching TV, you’ll have memories of watching TV. But probably not well enough to do anything with those memories.

If you spend 8-13 hours a week on social media, you’ll probably laugh a lot, be angry even more, and argue with more strangers than you’ll ever encounter otherwise.

Listen, I’m not here to judge. If you’re happy and content in your life and your work, keep doing that. Not everyone needs to be a creator. Tons of people are perfectly satisfied to clock in 9-5, watch Monday Night Football, and go out once in a while.

But if you are DISSATISFIED, bored, compelled, restless… PLEASE start.

Don’t do it for fame, or money, or attention. Do it because it’s IN YOU to do it. Feed that part of you that’s hungry for growth, and watch your world begin to light up.
