Be yourself

Are you rebelling? Or are you being yourself?
I think it’s an interesting question to ponder. Sometimes conforming is truly who we are. Following the path of least resistance. Being “normal”.
So rebelling in that circumstance would be to do something outside of that otherwise natural state of yourself.
But sometimes, being your natural self is only rebelling against the norm, as opposed to rebelling against yourself.
I’m all for finding your best self, whatever that means. One of my best friends of the last 30 years is “normal”. He’s had a regular job, got married, had kids, and has built up a nice life for himself. In a lot of ways, I admire him for it. Maybe even a bit jealous that he’s capable of the kind of grind I’ve never been able to handle.
I’ve been a black sheep in many ways for what felt like 40 years of my life. I’ve never been “normal”. I hated school. I hated work. And I just COULDN’T get myself to conform, even when I tried my best.
It’s only been the last 2-3 years that I’ve started feeling like I’ve become clear about who I am, and ironically, that the world has started to see it and accepted it as well.
So maybe you’re not a rebel. Maybe you’re just a person searching for themself. And that, at least should be, totally normal.
