A lot to learn

This was way back in 2021. I was probably 8-9 months in after a 20 year comic hiatus. I was starting to find a groove and was finally doing some of my own posing and colors.

Keep in mind, while I wasn’t doing anything comic related for 20 years, I was still a full time (struggling) artist. So I was absolutely still putting in the work I needed to in order to be able to paint at this level in “8-9 months”.

I clarify that because I think aspiring artists often misbelieve that you can get good at art like this fairly quickly.

While there are always exceptions, I think it’s generally a decade+ of SERIOUS practice before you’re going to start feeling truly competent.

I’m 46, I’ve been an artist my whole life, and I’m still learning new stuff every day.

There is A LOT to learn.

BUT!… when you figure out how to draw hands, or how to place shadows, or how to pull a smooth line… it’s all so satisfying.

I would love for this to be your living.

But before it can be that, it must become your reason for living.
